HISTORY
After the failure of his Art and Frame business, Sweet Frog was founded by Derek Cha in Richmond, Virginia in 2009. Founded on the core principle ‘Fully Rely On God’, the brand not only provided premium frozen yogurt to its customers, it also engaged the community in fundraising and local partnerships making them extremely popular.
Given their quality yogurt and customer centric approach, in four years they grew from their first shop in Short Pump, Richmond to 215 stores across America. Presently, they operate in over 350 locations across America and internationally (including locations in the Dominican Republic, Egypt and the United Kingdom).
In April 2012, Boxwood Capital Partners made a growth capital investment in the yogurt company, and eventually acquired Sweet Frog in 2015. Since the investment, Managing Director of Boxwood James Patrick Gallagher has been associated with Sweet Frog, first as a Board Director and after the acquisition as CEO of the company.
The popular yogurt brand has been awarded recognition as the best frozen yogurt in the US by the Daily Meal in March 2016. They have also been recognized as the Best of Lynchburg (2015), Best of Smith Mountain Lake Awards and many others. They have also been written about favorably in many local news digests for their community work, including in the Sampson Independent.

With over 80 flavors of Frozen Yogurt in 6 categories, it would be impossible not to walk away with your favorite flavor of yogurt and toppings. The yogurt tastes fresh and delicious. The prices of the Yogurt are by weight (roughly 0.50 USD for 1 oz, although it could differ in your location) including the toppings, so you pay according to your appetite each time.
Some of the recommended menu items are Vanilla, Sweet Coconut and Original Tart. They also have a variety of sugar free options including the Strawberry Banana and Cheesecake. For Non-fat lovers, try a mix of the Cappuccino and Classic Chocolate. In terms of Toppings you could have a mix of fruits, nuts candies or fruit poppers- gelatin balls filled with fruity liquid that burst in your mouth with a splash of flavor.
The ambience is friendly, but there are always a large number of noisy children at the outlet we visit, and service can sometimes be slow because of that. The hygiene is good, and we have no complaints about the seating. Try and go during school hours or later in the evenings which will be quieter. They are open from 11am to 10pm everyday.
Sweet Frog stores are conveniently located, and usually have ample parking. You can also buy SweetFrog branded toys and clothes which have the mascots on them in their pink and green themes. This place is also recommended to take large groups of children for parties, as they have a large variety to suit every taste and the staff is very helpful. The yogurt is reasonably priced for the quantity and quality, and we would definitely recommend a visit.
