Mountain Pepper

Also known as Sichuan peppercorns, these small reddish berries are known for their distinct taste and aroma. They are best used whole, either in soups or perhaps with a little sea salt on top.

They are used in Chinese and Korean cuisine, as well as in Indian masala. This fruit is hot! In fact, these peppercorns are the world’s hottest, according to Guinness World Records.

Mulberry

Mulberries are small, dark purple fruits with a velvety texture. They resemble blackberries and taste like tangy berries. While they are native to Europe and Asia, mulberries can also be found in North America and are commonly grown in parts of Florida.

I like Mulberry flavor mixed with cream soda, champagne and other soft drinks. I also use them to make fruit cocktails.

Momordica

Momordica fruit look like small tomatoes and are available year round. They are green or light red in color, with edible skin that is a deep pink when ripe. Although not as popular as other fruits, momordica fruit are commonly found in the Caribbean, Latin America and Asia.

I ate them for the first time at a restaurant in Miami. They were served in a delicious salad with pineapple and other fruits.

Marula

Also known as African sesame, marula fruit are small, dark blue fruits with smooth, shiny skin. They are widely grown in the African savannas and can be found in many grocery stores across the country.

Marula fruit can be eaten raw or cooked. Like other nuts, they’re crunchy but will soften when cooked and taste great when added to salads. It is used in traditional African culture for an alcoholic beverages.

I use them to make juice, smoothies, salsa and guacamole. Mangoes can be frozen, too. It is used in a lot of beverages, with teas and smoothies being my favorite. While buying mangos, make sure they are ripe. If you buy one that’s not ripe, it won’t taste as good as a perfectly ripe mango.

Mangosteen

The mangosteen is a tropical fruit with a firm, orange-yellow skin and sweet yellow flesh. The flesh can be white, green, yellow or orange depending on the variety. In addition to being used in tropical drinks (such as the mango and guava cocktail), mangosteens are also used in health food stores as an alternative to bananas in baked goods.

I like mangosteens with soda. while buying them look for one that is soft and has a little bit of give. If it’s very firm, then it is probably not ripe.

Meyer Lemon

These medium-sized citrus fruits are a cross between a lemon and an orange. Meyer lemons are mainly grown in California, Florida and Texas. They have a yellow-orange skin with white, slightly bumpy flesh inside.

I eat them mixed with my eggs in the morning. It can also be used as a garnish for beverages.

Miracle Fruit

The miracle fruit is a small, greenish-white fruit that grows on the trunk or limbs of the strangler fig tree (Ficus elastica). The fruit provides a sweet-tart mouth experience for those who eat it.

I have tried the miracle fruit and have been looking for it in any all of these stores but I can’t find it anywhere. It is said to be very good for health because it has lots of vitamin C. They are really expensive!

There are many types of melons: cantaloupe, honeydew and casaba, to name a few. Melons can be eaten raw or used in recipes. I like to eat them with a spoon. It can be used as an ingredient in salads, salsas and side dishes.

It is found in many cultures in many different ways but is most popular during the hot summer. It’s also how it got its name. Melon is from the French word for “honeydew.”

Muskmelon

A muskmelon is a large, round-shaped fruit that is similar to a cantaloupe. The flesh of the muskmelon tastes like honeydew melon. In fact, people often refer to these as honeydew melons just a little bit earlier in their ripening period.

Muskmelons are often used to make juice or alcoholic beverages such as wine, which is known as “muscadine,” due to its resemblance to the fruit. While you’re picking out your next melon selection, look for one that has a little bit of green left on it as opposed to yellow—which is a sign of over ripeness.

When ripe, a mammee apple tastes yummy. I like to eat them whole with the skin on—just be sure to wash first! I use them similar to there types of apples and eat them raw.

Marionberry

Marionberry fruits are a cross between the black and red raspberries and the wild blueberry. They’re an annual berry that grows in temperate zones.

They have a fragrant, sweet taste similar to that of the raspberries but with a hint of blueberry. Marionberries are grown in some parts of Georgia, North Carolina, southern Oklahoma and northern Texas.

Mangaba is a banana that is grown in the Western Cape of South Africa. It’s long, thin, and green.

It has a rich sweet taste that you can eat as is or juice it. When eating this type of banana, be sure not to eat just the skin because the true fruit has no seeds. I like to peel my mangaba and then slice it up for breakfast!

A macadamia tree is a tall evergreen tree that produces nuts (macadamia nuts) and the fruit of the same name. This fruit is very similar to a pear in shape, but it’s green on the outside and golden in the middle.

They’re often used in ice creams or pies, and I love them because they remind me of an avocado! When buying your next one, make sure you are buying the fruit not just its skin.

Mcintosh Apple

Mcintosh apples are a hybrid of two varieties of apple, the Stayman and McIntosh. They’re sweet and have a crisp, juicy texture.

They have an excellent flavor and keep very well in storage. They make a great snack, but you can also use them to make cider or sauce.

Melinjo

Melinjo are a type of stone fruit that’s native to Asia. When ripe, they look like little pears. They have an excellent taste, and they travel well during transport because they don’t brown or get rubbery.

They are also called hansang, kyariko, and inchakrul-gojin. I typically buy melinjo at the store and don’t have to worry about growing them myself at home. I like to eat them for breakfast with yogurt or sprinkled on top of granola.

Macoun Apple

Macoun apples are a cross between a McIntosh and an Empire apple. I really like to eat them when they’re in season because of their crisp green skin, sweet flesh, and good crunch.

They’re native only to northern Michigan and sometimes can be found in stores going into the fall season. They also grow well in cooler areas such as California, Idaho, Indiana, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York State and Vermont.

A medlar fruit is a type of apple that is very similar in appearance to a crabapple, but it’s not as tart. It becomes sweeter as it ripens.

Medlars are grown in the late fall and are said to have been enjoyed by ancient Greeks and Romans. They have often been used for medicinal purposes. I use it as a snack in my lunchbox or for breakfast.

Mamoncillo

Mamoncillos are small, elongated fruits with sweet, juicy flesh and tough, inedible skin. They’re yellow or red in color when ripe. The flavor of this fruit is similar to that of an apple with a hint of lemon.

I like these because they’re easy to peel and eat. I like to use them as a snack to accompany hummus, guacamole, or even fruit.
