You can eat these figs raw or cooked, and they are especially tasty when sliced up over ice cream or on top of hot oatmeal. A piece of advice: you need to exercise caution when eating a Desert King Fig because it’s seedy inside!

Dabai Fruit

black and yellow round fruits

The dabai fruit is a tiny, bright red Asian fruit that’s similar to a cherry but with a yellow-orange skin. It has a delicious sweet-tart flavor and can be eaten raw or cooked into a sweet soup.

The darling plum is my favorite stone fruit, and it’s highly underrated! It looks a lot like a cherry but has a purplish-red skin with lots of seeds. This fruit is very sour; the taste reminds me of tamarind sauce.

I like to eat it after a big meal and throw on some ice cream.

Desert Lime

Some people call this fruit a lime, but it’s not a true lime. Desert limes look like small, orange to pinkish-orange fruits with a skin that’s covered in small bumps.

Discovery Channel and Oprah have helped increase the awareness of this fruit’s popularity.

The desert lime is very juicy and a little tart at the same time. The outside of the fruit is also quite tough, but you can easily peel it off with your fingertips.

Dates

Dates are underrated, but they’re my favorite and the most nutritious piece of fruit in the world! Dates are actually the fruit of a plant in the same family as the orange tree. They can be used like a soft candy when eaten raw, or they can be processed into raisins or used as dried fruit later on.

I love dates because they add sweetness and fiber to recipes. Dates are also a great source of power packed nutrients. Its used as a natural sweetener for ice cream, cakes, and other desserts. Dates are a bit sweeter than your typical dried fruit, so they’re perfect as a “sweet treat” when you can’t have something like chocolate or candies.

Dewberries

Dewberries are the soft, delicious fruit I loved as a child. Dewberries have pale skin with white flesh and are great on their own, but you can also add them to desserts or use them as an ingredient in cooking. These little fruits grow on long, wiry vines that look like the roots of a tomato plant.

Dewberries are low in calories and contain more fiber than most berries. I like to eat them as they are or add them to a smoothie. As you can imagine, dewberries grow in dew, so they’re perfect for summertime!

Dragon Fruit

Dragon fruit is called the “king of fruit” because it has an incredibly sour, but extremely ripe and sweet taste that rivals that of a lemon. It’s a small, greenish-yellow fruit that grows in tropical climates. Dragon fruits look like miniature pineapples, with white flesh inside and a thin skin surrounding it.

I like Dragon fruit because they are similar to limes in taste and texture. They’re also very juicy and sweet, making them a healthy snack for all ages!

The black seeds inside Davidson’s plums may look like chocolate chips! Eat them alone or add Davidson’s plums to salads or yogurt for a tasty boost. I like to slice these plums up and use them as a garnish for ice cream or sorbet.

The discovery apple is a small, yellow-green fruit with a soft, green and tart skin. It’s native to Hawaii and is known for its strong scent of apples.

The discovery apple contains very little juice because it’s a very dry fruit. The main ingredient of the fruit is actually the seed, which is made up of many small glands that are highly nutritious.

Dekopon

Dekopon is a small fruit that looks like a greenish pear. The name “dekopon” means “sticky hand” in Japanese. This is because the fruit has very sticky exterior, which makes it difficult to handle.

The taste of dekopon is sour and bitter like a sour grapefruit with a little bit of saltiness. It is used in some Japanese dishes, but the taste is a bit odd. It can be used as a complement to savory dishes, but I think it would be better in a sweet dish.

Dracontomelon

Dracontomelon is a very large tree fruit that belongs to the citrus family. Dracontomelon is native to southern China and has a sweet, sour taste like a small orange. The skin of this fruit is dark green and tastes like an unripe banana.
