This brand is the largest chain specializing in ice cream. They are particularly recognizable for their ’31 flavors’ promise, guaranteeing their customers a different flavor for each and every day of the month.  They serve a multitude of different flavor frozen treats along with being the original creator of the ice cream cake.

When you enter any of their locations you’ll be greeted by smiling staff and a pretty, pastel colored store. While the majority of the stores are franchises, they have maintained high standards by ensuring that each manager has a stake in the business. They’ve provided top quality, scrumptious ice cream for over three quarters of a century and show no signs of slowing down their domination of the industry.

History

Baskin Robbins was the creation of brothers-in-law Burt Baskin and Irv Robbins. The pair were both ice cream enthusiasts and began their careers in the industry in 1945. Both had the same food philosophy and were committed to providing a wide range of flavors and top quality products, by 1948 they had 6 stores between them.

It was in 1953 that the duo joined forces and rebranded all their stores as the iconic Baskin & Robbin’s brand that is so familiar. Using pastel colors to recreate the fun and frolic of the fair, this is where there infamous pink spoon was created, as they believed that customers should be able to try every flavor. Since the company started, they have produced over 1,000 different flavors.

By the 1960’s they had over 400 stores across the US and were consistently winning gold medals for the quality of their products at county and state fairs. During the 1970’s the company went international with stores opening across the globe. They now have stores in over 50 countries worldwide.

The chain went through a spree of ownership changes, although it is currently owned by Dunkin’ Brands Inc. Through this partnership there has been some co-branding of Baskin & Robbin’s with the equally infamous Dunkin’ Donuts. All franchises are still based on the original franchise agreement, as set forth by Baskin and Robbin. With 7,300 locations, they are still dominating the industry today by providing delicious, creamy ice cream in a flavor to suit every whim.

When you enter any Baskin & Robbin’s locations you’ll be welcomed into a cute, comfortable, candy colored ice cream parlor. They have a variety of seating options, some have sofas, some have booths, some have breakfast bars, and some have outdoor seating. The staff are warm and welcoming and do their best to ensure you leave fully satisfied.

They’ve grown from their original 31 flavors, and they now offer a range of other products: cups and cones, sundaes, ice cream cakes, BRight choices range, parfaits and a range of soft drinks. Their BRight Choices range was introduced in 2008 and represents the healthier option. When it comes to flavors, this brand has them all: chocolate chip cookie dough, black walnut, old fashioned butter pecan, pumpkin pie, rum raisin, strawberry cheesecake, orange sherbet.

A popular choice is their gold medal ribbon flavor, although if you’re unsure of what to order, ask one of the helpful members of staff for an infamous pink spoon and try until you find your favorite. They keep their customers interested with regular specialty and seasonal flavors, while still sticking with the favorites. Plus their frozen treats are always thick, creamy and scrumptious. When you arrive, expect to pay from $2 to $5 for a cup, cone or soft serve; a sundae will cost about $5.
