Cinnabon was started back in 1985 with the first location being opened on Federal Way in Washington. The brand was the idea of business partners Rich Komen and Ray Lindstrom who were on a mission to create the perfect cinnamon roll. With the help of Jerilyn Brusseau, the trio were able to craft their perfect recipe.
While initially only distributing their signature cinnamon roll, the dish was a huge hit with the public and the brand quickly became extremely popular. Within less than a year of opening their first location, by 1986 they had opened their first franchise in Philadelphia, the first of many to come.
All of these initial locations were based inside malls, delivering to the needs of the daily shopper. It was in 1991 that they opened their first store outside of a mall, in Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. They now have over 750 locations all across the US and other countries; in malls, universities, airports, casinos and standalone locations.
The brand has gone through some changes of ownership since its creation. In 1998 it was purchased by AFC Enterprise Inc., who subsequently sold the chain to Focus Brands in 2004 for a cool $30.3 million. The current owners have continued to stay faithful to Komen and Lindstrom’s original vision. They have stood by the classic roll but also continue to expanded their product variety to satisfy every customer.
Every Cinnabon location is designed with a stream-lined, modern feel. The clean locations feature paneled wood and tiles in pastel colors, and every location is brightly lit. As the stores are frequently located in malls, seating can sometimes be slightly limited, however the available seating, generally table and chairs, is well organized in an easy-dining manner.
Their menu is an absolute inspired concoction of cinnamon covered creations. Besides their signature dish, they also offer: Minibons, Cinnabon Bites, Caramel Pecanbons, Cinnabon Stix and Cinnasweeties. Apart from their main feature, the most highly rated menu item is their Center of the Roll; served in a cup so you can eat it with a fork, this is the gooiest, most delicious part of the roll; pure goodness.
The chain also offers a variety of drinks to help wash your cinnamon delight down. Aribica coffee, fruity lemonade, iced coffee or an amazing chillatta, a fruit laced, creamy, iced blended drink. Whether it’s something to drink or something to eat, they guarantee there is a treat to satisfy every sweet tooth.
Their prices are also fairly reasonable and you can expect to pay around $4 for any one of their baked items. They also offer a Cinnapack, of 4 or 6 rolls which range between $15 to $20. Cinnabon’s delightful products have been filling the mall halls with the smell of baked goodness for many years and their rolls do not disappoint. You will certainly smell them before you see them, so keep your nose out for your nearest Cinnabon today.
