The “We Sell Happy” culture of Mendocino Farms was started in 2003 by Mario Del Pero and his wife Ellen Chen. Their first shop opened in 2005 on Bunker Hill, Los Angeles.
Today, they currently operate in several locations across Southern California. They also recently won the 2015 MenuMasters Menu Trendsetter Award.
The setup is very reminiscent of a fast food. People line up at the counter to place orders and wait for it to be served. But that’s where similarities end, of course. They serve fresh food, after all.
Sandwiches are definitely the highlight in their menu. Aside from that, they also serve salads made with ingredients locally grown by their partner farms. This adds the heart to the food you eat.
Among their bestsellers are the Kurobuta Pork Belly Banh and their steak BLT. The “Not so Fried Chicken” is also among the main crowd-pleasers.
Wait times for seating is generally short. Diners also receive free samples of side salads or soups while waiting in line. Note that also offer catering services for parties and events.
