As the name suggests their main focus is the traditional American hamburger, although they also offer an immense range of other items. History

The first location was opened by George Propstra in Vancouver, Washington in 1961.  From early on the company’s emphasis was on partnering with local farms to produce a higher quality, healthier product and this is something that is maintained across their 40 stores. Due to their effort towards remaining a localized company, you will only find their stores across Oregon and Washington.

Apart from providing delicious, wholesome, burgers, the chains main focus has been on ensuring their products are as healthy as possible. Their ingredients are locally sourced and as of 2004 they decided to sell only free range beef, with no antibiotics and absolutely no hormones. They also solely use trans-fat-free oil of which 7,500 gallons per month are then converted into biodiesel, so this ensures a healthier you and a heathier environment.

A further distinguishing feature of Burgerville is their commitment to sustainability.  They are fully focused on recycling, sustainable agriculture practices and renewable energy. The restaurants use 100% wind power and as of 2007 they began composting their waste, leading to a dramatic 85% reduction. Plus, in 2009, they began their initiative to allow bicyclists use their drive-thru, something rival chains have yet to do.

Despite this continued commitment to health and sustainability, the company still provide a delicious feast of food. They have won numerous awards, in 2003 they won Gourmet Magazine’s ‘Freshest Food in the Country’ award, while in 2007 they won the Food Network’s ‘Better Burger Award,’ both of which are representative of the quality of the food that this chain serve. 

Review

The interior of all Burgerville share the same classic theme: black and white floors, bright colors, neon lighting and the traditional diner table and chair set up. You will feel like you’ve been transported back to a 1950’s diner. All their locations are immaculately clean with happy, helpful staff to ensure your visit is entirely enjoyable from the moment you walk through the doors.

Considering Burgerville’s dedication to providing locally sourced, fresh, healthy ingredients, it should come as no surprise to hear that each and every menu item is an absolute delight to the senses.  Their selection of hamburgers is fantastic: original, original cheese, classic, colossal cheese, Tillamook cheese and their pepper bacon cheese are all mouthwatering delights. Although, it is their pepper bacon cheeseburger that comes the most highly recommended.

If one of the group is not in the mood for a burger, and there’s always one, Burgerville also offer a range of other products: chicken, turkey and fish sandwiches, halibut fish and chips, chicken tenders amongst various salads, sides and vegetarian options. Plus, they have an extensive selection of homemade milkshakes only produced with locally grown fruit. As if this wasn’t enough variety, they have a sensational seasonal range that coincides with whichever fruit or vegetables are ripe and ready that season.

The service is efficient and staff aim to keep your waiting time as low as possible. Their prices are also extremely competitive with other comparable chains. Their burgers and sandwiches cost anywhere from $1 to $7, while a set meal will cost around $5, there really is something to suit every budget.
