History
It was in 1951 that Glen Bell opened his very first “Taco-Tia” stand in San Bernardino, California. Bell made this decision after he had spent a long time at his first store “Bells Hamburgers and Hotdogs” watching hordes of people head to the Mexican restaurant across the road. In an attempt to figure out what was in their food he began eating there on a regular basis before becoming friendly with the owners; who then showed him how their food was prepared.
Bell went on to own a string of Mexican restaurants and stands before he finally opened the very first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. After spending so many years perfecting his recipes, the new brand exploded rapidly. The first official franchise was opened in 1964 in Torrance, California. By 1967 the chain had reached a total of 100 stores and by 1970 that number had grown to 325 locations.
In 1978 there was a big shift for the business when it was purchased Pepsi Co Inc., it had over 860 restaurants nationwide at the time. Bell remained involved with the business as a shareholder in Pepsi Co Inc. Over the next few years the chain continued to expand under the commercial guide of Pepsi Co., they introduced a variety of new products and offers to keep customers interested. In 1984 they introduced the Taco Salad and the Taco Bell Grande.
It was in 1991 that the company launched the new Taco Bell Express locations. These locations aimed to deliver a more compact menu but in quicker times and with consistently low prices. Furthermore, in 1995 the company began co-branding with other fast-food companies such as KFC, Pizza Hut and Long John Silver’s. The company now boasts a whopping 6,500 stores worldwide.
Review
Taco Bell is one of the most popular Mexican fast-food restaurants around. When you arrive at any of their locations you will be greeted by fast, friendly staff in an ambience that will make you feel like you’ve headed south of the border. Each location is designed with a Mexican adventure in mind; warm hues of red and burnt orange, plus a range of comfortable seating areas, mean you won’t want to leave in a hurry.
The chain serves a hefty range of authentic Mexican fast-food: tacos, burritos, quesadillas, gorditas, combos, vegetarian options, sides, sweet treats, breakfast and a range of drinks. All of their food is a fantastic fusion of flavors and is consistently: tasty, spicy, hot and delicious. Their tacos have one of the crunchiest shells around and they have a variety of options: crunchy taco, crunchy taco supreme, although if you don’t fancy the crunch in your bite they also have a range of soft shelled tacos too. If you’re unsure of what to order on your first visit, try their “fiery Doritos locos tacos supreme”, it is unbelievable.
At any of their pristinely clean locations, you’ll have the option to eat-in or take-away and the waiting times are generally low. At some locations you also have the option to use their drive-thru. What’s more, the chain is extremely reasonably priced: Tacos are around $2, burritos are around $3 and even their incredible combos will only cost around $5.
Overall, they have perfected the art of Mexican fast-food cuisine. Efficient service, quality ingredients and a formidable fusion of authentic spices have gained the company a place in the world’s hearts. They are an outstanding example of convenient, affordable, tasty tex-mex cuisine.
