From their humble beginnings as a traditional pizzeria, they have continuously expanded their menu and at current locations you can find a huge variety of items. History

Domino’s started out in 1960 as DomiNick’s in Ypsilanti, Michigan. It was purchased by brothers Tom and James Monaghan who planned to run the business as equal partners. However, after 8 months James decided to focus on his career as a full time postman and sold his half of the business to his brother in exchange of the old pizza delivery van, a Volkswagen Beetle.

It was in 1965 that Monaghan began global domination and expanded to two more locations. It was also this year that the name was changed from DomiNick’s to Domino’s Pizza, Inc., after the initial owner of DomiNick’s refused to allow Monaghan to use the name for the two new locations. This was shortly followed by the first franchised branch in 1967 and by 1978 the company had grown to over 200 locations.

The next step for them was to begin expanding into other countries with the first international store being opened in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, in 1983. Then came their first UK branch in Luton, this opened in 1985. The company now has restaurants in 73 countries spanning 5 continents.

Domino’s itself has also changed considerably over the years and in 2012 they changed their name again from Domino’s Pizza, Inc., to solely Domino’s. This change was made to reflect the company’s development, particularly in consideration of the variety of menu items now available. They have stood the test of time as a classic favorite for all ages, and show no signs of slowing down their domination.
