History

The Chick-fil-A brand extends all the way back to 1946 when Samuel Truett Cathy opened his first chain of restaurants; Dwarf Grill, although this was later renamed Dwarf House. This is where Cathy began the development of his infamous fried chicken in all its seasoned perfection.

This was certainly a labor of love and it took many years to perfect his recipe. In 1961, Cathy discovered a pressure fryer that could fry chicken in the same amount of time it would normally take to grill a hamburger. After this discovery, he went on to trademark the name Chick-fil-A and opened the first restaurant in 1967 in Greenbriar Mall, Alabama.

Over the 1970’s and 1980’s Chick-fil-A expanded rapidly into food courts across the US. Mall-based locations, stand-alone locations, drive-thru only locations, catering services; they have conquered the fried chicken market in so many ways.

Furthermore, they are fully committed to providing a healthier product for their customer. In 2008, they were the first fast-food establishment to use totally 100% trans-fat free oil. While in 2014, they announced a 5-year plan to ensure all of their poultry is 100% antibiotic free.
