History
Blaze Pizza was founded by the owners of ‘Wetzel’s Prtezels’, Elise and Rick Wetzel in 2011. The couple founded the company in Pasadena, California and the first location was opened in Irvine, California in early 2012. The initial growth was gentle and the second location was opened in Pasadena in 2014. Since this time, the chain has exploded, with locations appearing all over the nation.
The initial concept of Blaze Pizza was designed to be comparable with other made-from-scratch chains such as ‘Chipotle’. The brand name was designed to reflect the speed at which their pizzas are cooked. They are also focused on being eco-friendly and concentrating on sustainability, something that resonates with eco-aware millennials. Their popularity is shown through their rapid expansion; by the end of 2014, the company had opened 50 stores across 15 states.
Another of the brands top priorities is providing fresh, healthy, well-balanced food. Brad Kent is the executive chef, who has a degree in food science and nutrition, and is continuously striving for a healthier, tastier product. The company has won awards declaring it’s popularity; they also came out second in the top 100 fast casual restaurants of 2015.
The brand shows no signs of slowing down and has plans to open a store every 5 days, meaning that by 2020 they should have grown to an impressive 500 locations. They also have plans for international locations in the not too distant future. The brand’s slogan is “Intelligent choices for pizzas, people and planet” and this is exactly what they provide.
Review
At every Blaze Pizza you’ll find a common theme. Each location is designed with a modern, urban twist, lots of reclaimed wood and stainless steel and plenty of clean, comfortable seating. When you order your pizza you’ll first have to decide which flavor: meat eater, art lover, green stripe, red vine, veg out, link in, white top, bbq chicken or their customizable build-your-own.
You’ll then be directed down their assembly-line while you watch as your pizza is handcrafted through each stage of preparation by the company’s self-declared ‘pizzasmiths’. All of their ingredients are impeccably fresh and the staff are trained to be fast, fun and unbelievably friendly, so why not have a chat as they bring your order to life.
This brand is also very aware of their customers’ dietary needs and they provide gluten free dough as well as vegan cheese. They also offer other items such as: salads, soft drinks and their s’more pie, a delightful pizza-like dessert, melted marshmallows sandwiched in biscuits and covered in melted chocolate. One frequently recommended item is their blood orange lemonade, gulp down a glass with your order.
Plus, they don’t just look after your health, they look after your pocket too and their prices are extremely affordable with products ranging from $5 to $10. After your order is “fast fire’d” for 180 seconds in their intensely hot oven, you’ll be left with a combination of: a crust, that’s thin, crispy and yet still soft; delicious, fresh toppings; and a piping hot, perfect artisanal pizza.
