History
Portillo’s was founded by Dick Portillo in 1963. Portillo invested all of his savings on a hot dog stand. Struggling at first, the business quickly grew into what it is today.
Today, the company operates more than 50 restaurants in some U.S. states. Outside of its native Illinois, the restaurant has also expanded in Florida and Indiana.

There are Portillo’s branches that are diner-styled and are able to accommodate a lot of people per table, and there are also branches that provide more intimate seating.
