History
Sagebrush Steakhouse opened its first unit in Hickory, North Carolina in 1990. The restaurant expanded to other locations in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee. The establishment now operates 25 restaurants in the region. A few examples of these locations are Albemarle, Asheboro, Boone, Canton, Denver, Dunn, Kernersville, Lenoir, Mt. Airy, Mooresville, Morganton, Reidsville, Sanford, Waynesville, and Wilkesboro in North Carolina; Gaffney in South Carolina; Colonial Heights and Wytheville in Virginia; and Morristown, Newport and Rogersville in Tennessee.

The restaurant also created the Sagebrush Dude Ranch experience, which is a field trip for children between the ages of five and eight that allows them to spend a career day at the restaurant to learn about the restaurant business. This career day field trip provides valuable lessons about food preparation and sanitation, as well as crafts. Lunch is also provided for the children. The restaurant is open to organizing Dude Ranch experiences or other community events with organizations. Churches, schools, non-profit organizations, are just a few examples of establishments that organize the Dude Ranch experience for their children.

The restaurant opens at 11:00 a.m. every day of the week. There are a variety of options on the menu such as soups, salads, sandwiches, chicken, seafood, and of course, steak. The lunch menu offers fresh lunch salads such as the Harvest Salad, Texas Signature Salad, Steakhouse Salad, and the Southwest Chicken Salad. These salads are between $7 and $8. There are also Sandwich Combos, which consist of a half sandwich with salad, potato, soup, or chili. These Sandwich Combos are between $6 and $7 and include the Turkey Avocado, Chicken Salad, and BLT Sandwich Combos. The Lunch Favorites are priced between $6 and $10, and include a variety of steak, seafood and chicken dishes.
The main menu consists of the following sections: Starters, Soups and Salads, Steaks, Seafood and Combos, Chicken, Steakhouse Burgers and Sandwiches, Texas Favorites, Desserts, and Side Kicks. The Starters range from $5 to 11 and include Buffalo wings, Pepper Jack Bites, Queso and Chips, and Fried Pickles, just to name a few. The salads are priced between $4 and $5 for the half order and $8 and $10 for a full-sized salad. In addition to the salads on the lunch menu, other options include the Bleu Cheese Wedge, the Texas Chicken Caesar, and the Taco salads.
The steaks include a variety of cuts such as the ribeye, sirloin, filet mignon, New York strip, and tenderloin tips. The prices range from $10 to $22 depending on the size. The Sagebrush prime rib is priced between $14 and $19 depending on the size, and is served after 4:00 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The chicken and seafood dishes are priced between $10 and $13. Examples of the chicken dishes include the Teriyaki Glazed Chicken, Grilled Chicken Breast, and the Rodeo Chicken. Examples of the seafood dishes are the Crunchy Fried Shrimp, Sweetwater Salmon, Fish and Chips, and Fried and Blackened Tilapia.
Texas Favorites include, for example, the Chicken Fried Steak, Teriyaki Stir Fry, Taste of Texas, Texas Two Step, and the Baby Back Ribs. These dishes range from $10 to $20. The Steakhouse Burgers and Sandwiches are between $7 and $10. The desserts are between $2 and $4. The side dishes include mashed potatoes, sautéed mushrooms, macaroni and cheese, green beans, and rice pilaf, just to name a few. The quality of the food and the service seem to depend on the location, where it is great at some restaurants but not good at others. Customers do not have much of a wait time to be seated. However, the service seems to be generally slow. The steaks and burgers are definite customer favorites.
