History

Cold Stone Creamery was co-founded in 1988 by Donald and Susan Sutherland. They wanted to create a product that was a medium between hard packed and soft serve. Their signature recipe redefined the way people view this frozen treat and is the perfect middle ground between the two. The pair opened their first location in Tempe, Arizona.

After establishing a booming business and a solid reputation for the reliable, high quality of their goods the chain started to expand. In 1995, they opened their first franchise in Tuscan, Arizona. This was the first of many and the company now has stores in a variety of worldwide locations: Japan, Thailand, Brazil, Mexico, Kenya and Turkey to name a few.

In 2006, they were voted the fastest growing franchise in Entrepreneur magazine. In the following year, 2007, the brand merged with Kahala Corp. The new co-owners committed themselves to co-branding Cold Stone Creamery with other companies in a bid to improve their yearly appeal. In 2009 they confirmed plans to open 100 new stores that are co-branded with the Canadian coffee chain Tim Hortons.

The year 2008 saw the opening of their first European store, in Copenhagen, Denmark. This was followed by the opening of two Canadian locations, in Mississauga and Ontario in 2009. The brand is ranked as the 6^th best-selling brand and continue to delight customers across the globe with their scrumptious, creamy, made-to-order ice cream.

Besides their signature made-to-order dish, Cold Stone Creamery’s second most important priority is creating a happy, relaxing environment. They basically guarantee to put a smile on your face and all of their staff are always smiling and welcoming. Their locations are clean and decorated with warm hues, ambient lighting and comfortable seating.

Their main products of choice are their made-to-order creations. First you’ll need to select your flavor, choose from: cake batter, French vanilla, sweet cream, chocolate, mint, cheesecake, Irish cream, mango or any one of their other charming flavors. Then one of the members of staff will hand chop your selection with your choice of mix-ins: caramel, chocolate chips, gummy bears, peanut butter, raspberries, they have something for every mood. Finally, this wonderful mixture will be placed in one of their waffle cones, ready to devour.

They offer a range of sweet treats: ice cream cakes and pies, cookie sandwiches, sundaes, hot stone desserts, smoothies, shakes and ice blended drink, all of which are as good as their most infamous item. If you are unsure of what to choose they also have a range of signature creations, one of the best is their peanut butter cup perfection.  Their sizes range, they have: a 5oz ‘like it’ cup, an 8oz ‘love it’ cup and a 12oz ‘gotta have it’ cup, the prices are reasonable at between $4 to $6.
